Transparent & Accessible Government

Municipal government is funded by the people who live and do business here. I believe that creates a responsibility to treat every tax dollar with care and to communicate openly about the choices Council makes. At a time when families, seniors, farmers, and businesses are facing rising costs, affordability needs to be part of every major conversation at the Council table.

Keeping Affordability In The Conversation I don't believe it is responsible to simply promise that taxes will never increase. Municipalities face rising costs too, and roads, infrastructure, emergency services, recreation, and other essential services have to be maintained. What I can commit to is asking whether spending is necessary, whether we're receiving good value, whether another level of government or grant program could help fund it, and whether there is a more efficient way to accomplish the same goal. Before asking taxpayers for more, Council should be confident we're making the best use of what we already have. Transparency Builds Trust Residents shouldn't need to follow municipal government closely to understand what Council is doing. I want to support clear, accessible communication about major decisions, spending, projects, and priorities—including explaining the reasoning behind decisions whenever possible. Transparency doesn't mean everyone will agree with every decision. It means residents have the information they need to understand how and why that decision was made.

Listening Before Deciding  Public consultation should be meaningful, particularly when Council is considering decisions that could have a significant financial or long-term impact on the community. That means making it easier for residents to know when important issues are being discussed and creating reasonable opportunities for them to provide input. Council is elected to make decisions, but those decisions should be informed by the people we represent.

Responsible Today, Sustainable Tomorrow Fiscal responsibility isn't simply about spending less. It's about spending wisely. Sometimes responsible government means saying no. Sometimes it means investing now to prevent a larger expense later. The important thing is that decisions are based on evidence, community needs, long-term planning, and respect for the people paying the bill. My goal is to help keep Bonnechere Valley a community where people can afford to stay, families can build their futures, businesses can succeed, and residents can trust that their municipality is using their tax dollars responsibly.
