Reliable Municipal Services

Services to support every resident.

Municipal services are some of the most direct ways residents interact with their local government. When those services aren’t working effectively, residents should be able to raise concerns and expect Council to look seriously at practical solutions. One area I believe deserves attention is by-law enforcement. Bonnechere Valley currently relies on a contracted service shared outside our municipality. Residents have raised concerns with me about response times, availability, and whether the current arrangement adequately meets the needs of our community. I believe the next Council should review how well the current model is working and explore whether there are better options. What I’m Committed To Review how municipal services are being delivered and identify opportunities for greater efficiency and value. Explore partnerships with neighbouring municipalities where sharing services could improve service while reducing costs. Advocate for consistent, fair and responsive by-law enforcement. Improve how residents can report concerns, follow up, and receive timely responses. What Could That Look Like? There are several options worth exploring. A shared-service partnership with a neighbouring municipality could provide more reliable local coverage while distributing costs. Council could also examine whether there is enough need to justify a part-time municipal position or whether certain responsibilities could reasonably be incorporated into an existing role with appropriate training and capacity. Any change needs to make financial sense. I would want Council to compare the actual cost, response times, level of coverage, and effectiveness of our current system against realistic alternatives before making a decision. Better Service Doesn’t Always Mean More Spending Improving municipal services isn’t necessarily about creating more positions or increasing taxes. Sometimes it means taking an honest look at how we currently operate, identifying what isn’t working, collaborating with neighbouring municipalities, and finding a more efficient way to deliver the service. My goal is not change for the sake of change. It is to ensure residents receive reliable, responsive municipal services while respecting the taxpayers who fund them.
